What is it?

Caring for a friend or family member can be a difficult, challenging task. Many people provide informal care and support to others who have a disability, mental illness or drug and alcohol dependency, chronic condition, terminal illness or is frail. Many carers have additional roles and responsibilities beyond being a carer.

Caring for another person over an extended period can be physically and emotionally exhausting. It’s important to ensure you look after your health and wellbeing, and access support service. Feeling stressed when caring is not a failure. If you are caring for someone and are struggling to cope, talk to your GP about support services and strategies.
