What is menopause?
Menopause is defined as not having a period for more than a year in a non-pregnant woman. It is usually caused by estrogen levels dropping in the body. The average age of menopause is 51.7 years.
There are many different symptoms of menopause, with the most common being hot flushes, night sweats, and insomnia. Other common symptoms are joint and muscle pain, changed mood , poor concentration and memory, dry vagina and sexual dysfunction. One in fire women will have no symptoms. Three in five women will have mild symptoms for five to eight years.
There are a number of treatments available for women who have uncomfortable symptoms of menopause.
