What is it?

A shoulder dislocation is when the upper arm bone comes out of the shoulder blade socket. Shoulder dislocations are very painful. They are often caused by sports injuries, high-impact accidents and falls.

If you have a dislocated shoulder, you won’t be able to move your shoulder. You may notice swelling, bruising or pain. Your shoulder may look out of place or deformed.

There are different forms of shoulder dislocation. Serious forms may require surgery. Others can be managed with pain relief as the shoulder is eased back into position.

People who have had one shoulder dislocation are more likely to get another one so it is important to follow your treatment plan and any exercises. Proper aftercare will help your shoulder fracture heal well.
