Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a developmental disorder that affects how people behave. People with ADHD may find it hard to pay attention. They may also fidget, talk a lot or not be able to sit still. Another symptom of ADHD is finding it hard to control impulses.
ADHD always starts in childhood and many symptoms are likely to continue into adulthood. Although, sometimes ADHD is only diagnosed as an adult.
If you think you have ADHD, talk to your GP. They will organise for you to be assessed and to start treatment. This may involve seeing a specialist, called a psychiatrist, for formal diagnosis and to commence medication if necessary. You may also benefit from improving lifestyle factors and psychological treatment.
