What is mycoplasma genitalium?
Mycoplasma genitalium is caused by bacteria. It can affect the cervix, urethra and rectum. It is a type of sexually transmitted infection (STI). It can be spread by having sex without a condom. Many people have no symptoms. If you have a vagina, you may notice pain, bleeding after sex or a change in vaginal discharge. If you have a penis, you may notice discharge from the penis or pain when weeing.
Your sexual partners should be notified if you have mycoplasma genitalium. They may also need treatment.
