What is a hospital?
A hospital is where you go for emergency care. They offer treatment to patients and have specialised staff and services. In South Western Sydney, there are six public hospitals and six private hospitals.
A public hospital is funded and run by the Australian federal, state and territory governments.
A private hospital is funded and run by a private company.
Anyone can get treated at either type of hospital. Public hospitals will have no fees. Private hospitals may have some fees, private health insurance helps to cover the cost.
