Shoulder pain is very common. It is a sign that all or part of your shoulder is injured, strained, or not working properly. The pain may be coming from the joint, muscles, tendons or ligaments around the shoulder. Sometimes, shoulder pain is caused by problems with the neck or spine. You may experience weakness, reduced movement, tingling or deep pain in the shoulder. The pain you feel may go down into the arm or up into the neck or head.

Usually, shoulder pain isn't serious. You should see your GP if the pain is getting worse or if the pain started after a fall or accident.

The two main types of shoulder pain are:

  • Frozen shoulder
  • Rotator cuff disorder
