What is Achilles Tendon Rupture?
The Achilles tendon is at the back of the heel. It can be ruptured by sudden force on the foot or ankle creating a tear. It can feel like being kicked in the lower leg, making it difficult to walk or rise on your toes.
Sudden use of the calf muscle during sprinting or sports may put so much stress on the tendon that it tears completely causing an Achilles Tendon Rupture. Should this occur, the tendon generally cannot heal properly without prompt medical attention. You should attend your local emergency department for assessment and or to determine whether a cast should be put on.
