What is otitis externa?
Otitis externa, also known as Swimmer’s Ear, happens when the outer part of the ear becomes inflamed. The skin inside the ear canal can become red, swollen, and sore because of an infection caused by bacteria or fungus. This condition can affect people of all ages.
A common cause is water getting trapped in the ear after swimming or showering. When water stays inside the ear, it creates a warm, moist place where germs can easily grow. There may be other causes as well, and your 全科医生General Practitioner can check for these.
Your GP may do some tests to find out the best treatment for you and will give advice on how to prevent it from happening again.
