What is falls prevention screening?
Falls are a major cause of injury and hospital visits across all aged groups but more so with older adults.
In the community, those aged above 65 years fall at a rate of about 1 in 3 per year. This rate increases with age. About 20% of fallers have fallen before and at the highest risk of injury.
If you have had a fall in the past 12 months, your chance of falling again is highly likely. Falls cause disability, loss of independence and isolation in older adults. Building strength and balance is the strongest factor for reducing falls.
