What is it?

Headaches are very common and usually not concerning. Many people can treat their headache with over-the-counter pain medicine, rest and drinking more water. Sometimes, a headache can be a symptom of a serious illness. There are different types of headaches:

Tension: This is the most common type of headache. The pain is usually dull or tight on one or both sides of your head. This type of headache can last from 30 minutes to 7 days.

Migraine: This is a common and is when you have a headache and other symptoms such as nausea or light sensitivity. The pain is usually throbbing and can last from a few hours to 3 days.

Cluster: These can be very painful. It usually starts behind the eye and feels like burning or stabbing. This type of headache can last up to three hours and can happen many times in a day.

Sinus: A headache caused by sinus problems. Your cheek bones and forehead may feel sore when you press on them. Your teeth may also be sore, and you could have a blocked or runny nose.

Altitude: An intense, throbbing pain. This may happen when you change altitudes. Mountain climbing, or being on a plane may cause this type of headache.
