What is it?

Iron therapy is when you receive iron through an injection into a vein. This is also called an intravenous or IV infusion. Your body needs iron to make healthy red blood cells. But some people don’t get enough iron in their diets. Iron is found in liver, red meats, beans, nuts and dried fruit. It’s also added to some products like cereals.

If you are very low in iron, you may need iron therapy. You can also get iron through supplements, such as tablets. People who can’t absorb iron or take tablets may need an IV infusion. If you need iron therapy, your GP will talk to you about treatment options.
