What is bedwetting (enuresis)?
Enuresis is involuntary bedwetting during sleep in a child under 5 years old. It is a common condition that affects 10% of children aged over 7 years old. This can be quite stressful for both children and their families and can sometimes be associated with daytime incontinence as well.
Primary enuresis without other symptoms is when a child has never been consistently dry but does not have any other symptoms e.g. pain on urinating or weakness of the body. It is usually not associated with another underlying illness and early treatment helps to improve quality of life and reduce the chance of enuresis persisting into adulthood.
