What is a temper tantrum?
Temper tantrums, also known as tantrums, are emotional outbursts. If your child is having a tantrum, they might cry, yell and stamp. They may act like they are out of control or run away. Anger and frustration are common signs. Children with severe tantrums may also have difficulty sleeping or be over-active.
Tantrums are common in young children. Around 50 to 80% of two-to-three-year old’s have weekly tantrums. Up to 20% have daily tantrums.
Children often have tantrums when they are struggling to express their feelings. They may also be experimenting with their emotions and your reactions.
Tantrums are not known to run in families. Usually, you can manage your child’s tantrums with behavioural strategies. Many children grow out of tantrums.
