What is it?

Urinary incontinence is the involuntary or accidental leakage of urine. This affects 30% to 50% of women and up to 30% of men. Pregnancy, childbirth, are common causes for women and enlarged prostates for men. For both men and women, incontinence becomes more common with age.

There are practical steps you can do to better control incontinence. Your GP may prescribe medicine. They may also refer you to a specialist or physiotherapist based on what is causing the incontinence.

Support services and financial help are also available for people with incontinence.
