Antenatal care refers to the regular appointments and tests you have during your pregnancy. You’ll need to have:

  • Regular appointments with your GP, midwife or obstetrician – you can choose what type of medical care you want during your pregnancy
  • Tests, including blood tests and ultrasounds – regular tests help to confirm your baby is healthy and growing normally; they can also identify any potential health issues

Your GP will tell you how many appointments you need to have and when you need to have them. You can also use your appointments to ask questions about pregnancy, birth and beyond. If your pregnancy is high-risk, you may need more frequent appointments. If you have any questions about routine antenatal care, speak to your GP.
