In people with oesophageal cancer, abnormal cells grow out of control and form tumours. These tumours can form in the glandular tissue of the cells lining the oesophagus. They can also start in the cells that line the oesophagus.
Treatment for oesophageal cancer depends on the stage of the disease and the person’s overall health. Options include surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Treatment can help to destroy cancer cells and improve the quality of life of the person with the disease.
