Cancer is a disease of the cells, which are the basic building blocks of the human body. The body constantly makes new cells to help us grow, replace old cells and heal injuries. Sometimes this process goes wrong, and the cell becomes abnormal. The abnormal cell can form cancer. It can start anywhere in the body.
What can cause cancer?
We don’t know all the risks and causes of cancer. However, there are a few risks we do know, including smoking, alcohol consumption, diet, exposure to radiation (including UV from the sun), and genetic factors.
It is important to know cancer is not caused by injury or stress.
